AN OPPORTUNITY LIKE NO OTHER

As a registered nurse, the healthcare world opens up for you. While LPNs are limited to work where they can provide assistance, RNs are able to apply for positions in emergency departments, OBGYN offices, and numerous other healthcare departments where they are able to provide healthcare directly to patients. Upon admission into the LPN to RN Bridge program,

the student will be awarded up to 34 credits for core courses. The breakdowns of the credit content are as follows: 

  • 18 credits for liberal sciences
  • Seven credits for nursing fundamentals
  • Nine credits for liberal arts

Applicants would also have to take Medical-Surgical I and II, Nursing Care of Special Population I, the Childbearing Family and Nursing Care Population II: Geriatric and Mental Health (at the RN level), and Pharmacology. The Applicant must also have completed the following prerequisites: 

  • Liberal Sciences: Anatomy and Physiology I and II ( four credits each)
  • Microbiology (four credits)
  • Introduction to Psychology (three credits)
  • Developmental Psychology (three credits)
  • Nutrition (three credits)
  • Liberal Arts are English Composition (three credits)
  • Speech Communication (three credits)
  • Math for (Allied) Health Science (three credits)

Students will also be required to take an LPN to RN Role Transition Seminar in order to aid in their transition from providing assistance to providing direct medical care and are required to take standardized entrance exams that assess competency and knowledge in reading, math, as well as nursing knowledge in pharmacology and fundamentals. When accepted into the program, applicants will be able to transfer directly into the second year of the RN program. Our nursing program prepares students for entry-level positions in nursing and to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). A CAREER IN NURSING

The nursing bridge program includes nursing courses and clinical experiences in healthcare settings where students will apply knowledge gained to provide safe, patient-centered care. These experiences are in a variety of health care settings such as acute, sub-acute, and long-term care with community-based experiences under the supervision of nursing faculty. In addition, students practice nursing intervention skills in the fully equipped college laboratory. Evening and day sections are available. The program is accredited by the New York State Department of Education Professional Education Program Review and accredited by the New York State Board of Regent.

To progress through the program, a grade of 77 percent or better in all nursing courses, a grade of “C+” or better in all nursing courses, and satisfactory clinical evaluations are required. All students enrolled in the nursing program must have a yearly physical performed by their health care practitioner and maintain current liability insurance and BLS-C CPR certification while in the program.
